Written Statement
I'm Analeise, a textile artist and teacher. I am proud to be part of a local and national movement of textile artists who are rejecting the relegation of textiles as "craft". This community embraces textiles for what they are: an exciting, richly storied art medium with their own place in the fine art world.
My art practice focuses on exploration of non-traditional mediums, images and themes. Transformations, beauty, and bodies are my main subjects. I mix hand-embroidery, machine sewing, surplus medical equipment, and reused/recycled yarn and fabric to make art that feels right to me.
As an arts professional, my passion is for increasing access to the arts for every member of my community. At Fresh Eye Arts, I represent artists with disabilities and promote their place in the art community. As an instructor for the Textile Center, I've had the amazing opportunity to share the textile skills I learned from my family. Sharing my passion for art is incredibly fun and joyful, and I'm grateful to all the artists who share their intuition and skill with the world.
